SPREAD THE LOVE...

Over the past ten years of my career and life experiences, I have accomplished many things both personally and professionally that have prepared me to succeed in business school and beyond. Throughout my journey, I have consistently taken on roles of increasing responsibility, challenged myself intellectually and emotionally, and developed key leadership skills that will help me contribute significantly as a member of your MBA program.

I began my career in 2010 as a Marketing Associate for a Fortune 500 technology company after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing. In this role, I was immediately exposed to complex business challenges and given ownership over multi-million dollar marketing programs from day one. I led the digital marketing strategy for three of our major product launches which required coordinating different internal teams, managing numerous agencies, and ensuring all deliverables and timelines were met. Within 18 months, I was promoted to Marketing Manager where I took on full P&L responsibility for one of our largest business units. This role demanded that I learn how to balance the needs of the sales team, product management, and executive stakeholders to deliver profitable growth year over year. Through strategic planning, testing innovative channels, and analyzing metrics rigorously, I exceeded targets by 15% over two years in this role.

I knew I wanted to further develop my leadership and business acumen, so in 2013 I accepted a Director role at a healthcare technology startup. This was an immense challenge given the small size of the company and the complexity of the domain, but it afforded me significant learning. I led the launch of our first software product which involved overseeing all aspects of product development, sales enablement, marketing, customer support, and more. I gained fundamental business skills like financial management, fundraising, recruiting, and legal/compliance in this startup environment. In just 18 months, we grew from 5 employees to 30 and our annual recurring revenue increased 5x through my efforts. Although the company was later acquired, I felt immense pride in helping build something from nothing and providing jobs for others.

In 2016, I decided to take what I had learned about driving growth in both large corporations and startups and apply it in an environment where I could have direct social impact. I joined a small non-profit focused on increasing access to healthcare in rural Africa as COO. I quickly built out an operational infrastructure, processes, and systems from scratch to scale the organization. I secured over $2M in grants by crafting compelling proposals and reports. I developed a program to train and place community health workers, which has now reached over 100,000 people in remote villages. I helped forge strategic partnerships with the government and other NGOs to further our mission. After three years in this role, we expanded services to five new countries, diversified our revenue streams through social enterprise models, and positively impacted hundreds of thousands of lives.

While accomplishing so much professionally, I have also challenged myself personally through athletics. In 2017, I took up marathon running as a new hobby and fitness goal. I steadily increased my weekly mileage and gained mental toughness through grueling long runs in all weather conditions. In 2018, I qualified for and ran the Boston Marathon, completing the iconic 26.2 mile course in just over 4 hours. The preparation, determination and willpower required along every step of my marathon journey pushed me beyond what I thought myself capable of and taught me valuable lessons about perseverance that I apply to all aspects of my life.

Outside of work and sports, I have also made significant contributions to my local community. In 2012, I joined the Board of Directors of my neighborhood community center that provides after-school programs and summer camps for underprivileged youth. I helped restructure our budget, spearheaded two capital campaigns that raised over $1M collectively for facility upgrades, and implemented data-driven processes to track participation and outcomes. I mentored students one-on-one to provide guidance and exposure. After 7 years of dedicated service, I transitioned off the Board but remain a mentor and supporter. Additionally, in 2019 I co-founded a nonprofit focused on skill-building and career exposure for high school girls interested in STEM fields. In just two years, we’ve established partnerships with 10 local schools, trained 45 volunteer mentors from companies like Google and IBM, and impacted over 500 young women through hands-on workshops and events. I’ve loved giving back locally through philanthropic efforts and working to address socioeconomic disparities.

Beyond just accomplishments, one of my greatest assets is an insatiable curiosity to continuously learn. I am constantly reading about diverse topics, taking online courses, and seeking new experiences to expand my knowledge base and comfort with ambiguity. I took a winemaking class to learn about fermentation science, landed a freelance project as a marketing consultant, and have done an immersive fellowship overseas. When faced with challenges, I truly enjoy sinking my teeth in and working with diverse groups of people to generate innovative solutions. My methodologies for personal growth and constant skills development will serve me extremely well in an MBA program where class projects allow for applications of learnings across industries. I will bring an unmatched experience level and track record of achievement to the table, having succeeded in both the corporate world and entrepreneurial/non-profit spheres. You will find me to be an extremely passionate, dedicated student who excels at tackling complex issues methodically and collaboratively.
