It was a typical afternoon in Bikini Bottom and Spongebob Squarepants was looking forward to enjoying the rest of his day relaxing at home after finishing his shift at the Krusty Krab. When he arrived at his pineapple house he found a large sealed envelope had been slipped under his door. “What could this be?” thought Spongebob curiously as he opened it up. Inside was a letter from his teacher Mrs. Puff informing him that for a grade in her boating school class he needed to write a five page essay on “My Future Career Goals and Aspirations”.
“Oh boy, an essay! Writing has never been my strong suit but I want to pass Mrs. Puff’s class,” said Spongebob aloud to himself. He dug out a notepad and pencil and sat down to start brainstorming. The first thing he needed was a topic to focus his essay around. Spongebob loved his job at the Krusty Krab but knew that couldn’t be his only career aspiration forever. After thinking about what truly made him happy, he decided the perfect topic was his dream of becoming a professional fry cook.
With his topic decided, Spongebob got to work on constructing an outline to structure his essay. He wrote “Introduction” at the top of the first page and jotted down some key points he wanted to hit such as sharing his passion for cooking and why becoming a fry cook was the perfect career path for him. Under that he wrote “Body Paragraph 1” and brainstormed about his work experience at the Krusty Krab so far and how it fueled his interest in culinary arts. For his second body paragraph he planned to discuss the process of becoming a certified fry cook and the education/training it would require. The third body paragraph would cover the job responsibilities and opportunities for advancement as a professional fry cook. He wrapped up his outline with an area labeled “Conclusion” where he would reiterate his goals and summarize why becoming a fry cook was his dream career.
Now that he had a solid outline to follow, Spongebob was ready to start writing the first draft of his essay. He began with his introduction paragraph introducing himself and expressing his love of cooking from a young age before delving into why becoming a fry cook specifically interested him. Moving onto his first body paragraph, Spongebob enthusiastically described all he had learned working under Mr. Krabs at the Krusty Krab such as proper grilling techniques, food safety practices, and menu item recipes. He talked about the fulfilling feeling of making customers happy with delicious food.
For his second body paragraph on the required training, Spongebob had to do some more research. He knew some basic skills were needed but wanted specifics to make his paper more credible. After consulting with Gary and doing some online searches, he learned there were certification programs offered through culinary schools that involved courses in food preparation, nutrition, business management, and more. Many programs took 1-2 years to complete depending on if it was a certificate or associates degree. Armed with these new facts, Spongebob filled out that section of his essay with solid educational details to back up his goals.

Moving onto his third body paragraph, Spongebob discussed the variety of responsibilities and opportunities a professional fry cook could expect to have. He touched on duties like taking orders, frying foods, managing grill stations, ensuring food and equipment safety standards were met. He also expressed there was room for growth like advancing into head cook, kitchen manager, or even owning one’s own restaurant one day. Spongebob imagined that level of success with pride and passion.
For his conclusion, Spongebob wrapped up by reiterating how his work experience already at the Krusty Krab and pure love of food had cemented that becoming a certified fry cook was the ideal career path for him going forward. He was committed to pursuing the necessary education and training to achieve his dream. Spongebob expressed confidence that with dedication and hard work, he could one day become the greatest fry cook in all of Bikini Bottom. He ended by thanking Mrs. Puff for the opportunity to share his goals and aspirations through the assignment.
After finalizing his concluding paragraph, Spongebob proudly re-read his five page masterpiece. As an inexperienced writer he knew it still likely needed improvements. “I think I need a second set of eyes on this,” he said to himself. Spongebob decided to ask his best friend Patrick Star to help proofread and provide feedback before submitting it to Mrs. Puff. Patrick eagerly agreed to help, although he wasn’t the strongest student himself. Still, between the two of them commenting on structure, grammar, and flow they were able to identify some areas for revision and strengthening of ideas.
Armed with Patrick’s help, Spongebob diligently went to work on polishing his essay based on the suggested changes. He reorganized a couple body paragraphs for better cohesion, added more specific examples and details to develop his points, and fixed any typos or stray marks on the pages. After a few rounds of tweaking, Spongebob felt confident he had a solid final draft to hand in. He neatly printed it out, stapled the five crisp pages together, and sealed it in a fresh envelope addressed to Mrs. Puff.
The next day in class she collected all the essays and Spongebob anxiously awaited his grade. Several days later Mrs. Puff had read through and scored all the papers. To Spongebob’s utter delight and surprise, she informed him that not only had he passed the assignment but received one of the highest scores in the class for his committed focus on his future goals and career aspirations as demonstrated in his essay. Spongebob beamed with pride at his accomplishment, proving with determination and teamwork even a first-time writer could succeed. He had not only gained a valuable boating credit but also reinforced his dedication to achieving his dream of becoming the best fry cook under the sea.
