Writing acknowledgements for a research paper is an important step that is often overlooked. It provides an opportunity to thank those who supported and contributed to the research project. While not a core section of the paper, acknowledgements play a meaningful role in recognizing the efforts of others.

The acknowledgements section typically comes after the table of contents page and before the abstract. It should be brief yet thorough in expressing gratitude. When crafting the acknowledgements, keep in mind the various parties that aided in the successful completion of the research project. This includes professors, mentors, colleagues, friends, family members, and funding sources.

Professors and Research Supervisors

Academic supervisors and faculty advisors should always be acknowledged for their guidance and mentorship. Express thanks for their time, feedback, insights, and encouragement throughout the research process. If a supervisor contributed resources like funding, lab space, or equipment, note their tangible support as well. Provide your supervisor’s full name, academic title, and institutional affiliation.
