Quaternary or even quinary levels may be added for particularly complex topics requiring deeper breakdowns. Lowercase Roman numerals (i, ii, iii, etc.) or other consistent symbol systems can distinguish these subordinate levels in a structured way. Regardless of how many tiers are warranted, each alphanumeric code should clearly relay the paper’s progression.

Well-conceptualized outlines ensure body paragraphs remain tightly focused on evidentially defending individual points instead of mixing various loosely related ideas together.
