On more than one occasion, I found myself in a situation where an important paper was due in just a few days, but I had made little progress due to my packed schedule. In a moment of weakness and desperation, I decided to use an essay writing service to complete an assignment for one of my core classes. While I do not recommend engaging essay writing services due to ethical concerns, my experience using one provided me with valuable lessons about time management, responsibility, and the risks involved. In this article, I will share my experience with using an essay writing service in an effort to educate and warn others of the real costs that can come with this decision.

Choosing a Service

When I made the fateful decision to use an essay writing service, my top priority was finding one that could complete a 5-page research paper on a tight 3-day deadline. In a flurry of Google searches, I came across several services advertising quick turnarounds for a price. After reading reviews on various review sites, I chose a service that claimed to have Masters and PhD-level writers in my field of study and receive mostly positive feedback from customers. Their prices were on the higher side but seemed reasonable given the short deadline. I placed my order, provided instructions and sources for the paper, and paid via credit card, hoping for the best results possible within 72 hours.

Communication and Delivery

The communication with my assigned writer started off smoothly enough, with them asking clarifying questions about my expectations for the paper. Red flags started popping up when they asked for multiple extensions on the deadline, citing issues with other clients and personal matters. While I begrudgingly granted short extensions each time to avoid further delays, it became clear the 3-day turnaround promised would not be met. After numerous missed deadlines over nearly a week, the writer finally delivered a paper they claimed was complete. Upon reviewing it, I realized large portions were plagiarized directly from my source materials and the organization and flow were disjointed and unclear. Most importantly, it motivated me to prioritize time management, balance and support networks moving forward in my studies. Though the easy route may seem appealing in moments of pressure or fatigue, hard work and character will always be more rewarding in the long run.
