Technology has enabled various innovative teaching methods like virtual classrooms, online courses, e-learning, etc. that provide flexibility in learning. Students can pursue subjects of their interest from renowned international universities sitting in the comfort of their homes. Adaptive learning programs powered by Artificial Intelligence analyze individual learning patterns and customize the curriculum accordingly. Excessive reliance on technology for learning can undermine the importance of face-to-face interactions between teachers and students which are vital for overall development. It may also raise issues of information overload, distractions and cybercrimes like plagiarism.

Rise of skill-based education:
In the competitive job market of today, mere academic qualifications are not sufficient. Employers prioritize hiring individuals with relevant practical skills. Many vocational courses, internships, apprenticeships, and training programs have emerged that equip students with job-ready abilities. This prepares them better for the demands of the industry. Privatization and commercialization:

At the same time, privatized education has also commoditized learning wherein it is perceived more as a traded service rather than a basic right. Monetary considerations take precedence over merit which hampers equal opportunity and social justice. Exorbitant tuition fees impose undue financial burden on students and families. Strong regulation is required to avoid profiteering aspects and ensure private education contributes to nation-building responsibly.

Globalization and internationalization:
In the globalized world, international exposures and experiences have become crucial for individuals as well as countries. Ensuring qualitative and quantitative expansion concurrently requires pragmatic reforms and investments.

Changing needs of learners:
Today’s ‘digital native’ students have different preferences, aspirations and habits compared to past generations. Their short attention spans, experiential bent and affinity for visual- sensory stimuli pose new challenges for educators. Learning styles are evolving and so are career paths. Multidisciplinary, multi-skilling and entrepreneurial oriented education that equips individuals for the ‘VUCA’ world is the need of the hour. At the same time, honing core skills like analytical thinking, problem-solving and lifelong learning remain indispensable. Adaptive education catering to diverse, dynamic learners through experiential and flexible pedagogies holds the key.
