SPREAD THE LOVE...

Jennifer had always had a passion for writing ever since she was a little girl. She loved to spend her free time crafting stories and poems, even if they weren’t the most polished works. There was just something intrinsically rewarding about being able to put her thoughts and ideas down on paper.

As she got older, Jennifer started to think that maybe she could turn her writing hobby into something more. She had always excelled in her English classes in school and gotten high praise from teachers on assignments. A few even suggested she consider pursuing writing or journalism in college. But she just wasn’t sure if she had what it took to make a career out of it.

After graduating from high school, Jennifer went off to a large state university to study Communications with a concentration in media writing. She threw herself into her coursework, seeking every opportunity to sharpen her skills through projects and extracurricular activities. In her sophomore year, she landed an internship at the campus newspaper where she was able to write articles and gain invaluable experience under the guidance of professional editors and journalists.

The internship was just what Jennifer needed to realize she could see herself as a bonafide writer. She enjoyed the process of reporting on campus and community events, conducting interviews, and crafting news stories to deadlines. The feedback and praise she received from her supervisors and readers gave her confidence a boost. By the end of her internship, Jennifer knew without a doubt that she wanted to pursue a career in content writing or journalism after college.

In her final two years of university, Jennifer took on leadership roles at the campus paper and added more sophisticated pieces to her writing portfolio. She applied for and was awarded a prestigious scholarship from the journalism department to travel abroad and report on a story from another country. The experience was eye-opening and further fueled her drive to start her career upon graduation.

Jennifer spent her last semester networking relentlessly, sending out resumes and samples of her work far and wide. Her diligence paid off when she landed not one but two promising job offers – one at a mid-sized daily newspaper as a general assignment reporter and the other working as a freelance contributor and blogger for a popular regional online publication. After careful consideration, she chose the freelance path so that she could gain varied experience in multimedia platforms rather than specializing in just print journalism right away.
