I Didn’t Do My Homework

The sun was shining bright as I woke with a stretch and a yawn
I tumbled out of bed knowing the day had dawn
I had a big test coming up in my last period class
But homework was calling and I just let it pass
I booted up my laptop and got onto YouTube instead
Watching funny videos while lounging in bed
The morning ticked on by as I scrolled through all the memes
Lost in internet land, homework was but a dream
Before I knew it, the morning had turned into noon
I realized with a start, homework still wasn’t done
I brushed my teeth and got dressed in a bit of a rush
Grabbed my bag and hustled out with quite a brush
Got to school and through the morning it was fine
But as the hours passed I started losing my mind
My teacher for last period, Ms. Johnson was her name
She taught math, my worst subject, it always felt like a shame
The bell rang for lunch and I headed to the caf
Got food on my tray but felt nothing but dread
Sat with my friends but wasn’t in the chatting mood
My mind was a mess, I knew I was screwed
After lunch it was time for history and science
Both classes went by in a procrastinating trance
I stared out the window daydreaming the whole time
Wishing this day would just fast forward and rewind
Finally the dreaded time had come, it was last period math
I walked into class with lungs full of cold stale breath
Ms. Johnson greeted us all with a friendly smile
But I felt sick inside, this was no child’s play or trial
She passed out the test and I looked down in a panic
My mind was blank, I had no clue where to begin
The questions stared up at me as if mocking my plight
Swirls and symbols all jumbled up in a confusing sight
I erased and erased more than I actually wrote
Struggling to recall what wasn’t thoroughly learned or taught
The time was ticking by with each passing second
I glanced around at peers writing away without dread
When the bell finally rang my paper was barely filled
Handing it in with slumped shoulders, I felt totally killed
Ms. Johnson called me over as classmates filed out
She sat me down asking what it was all about
I hung my head low and with shame admitted the truth
“I’m sorry Ms. Johnson, I didn’t do my homework last night.”
She gave a sad sigh and shook her head with concern
“You had all weekend to study, why did you spurn
The chance to prepare and get a good grade on the test?
Now you’ve put yourself in a position that’s not the best.”
I had no good excuse for why homework went undone
Just that YouTube and memes were too much easy fun
Compared to polynomials, equations and more
Homework seemed tedious, a complete boring chore
She understood how homework can feel like a drag
But said priorities and good habits are what you brag
Putting things off till the last minute never works out
Sets you up for failure, leaves you in a big pout
She assigned me homework and told me to go home
Really focus and study, don’t just zone out alone
Come prepared for tomorrow, do better than today
Get yourself back on track without further delay
I headed home feeling incredibly low
Kicked myself for procrastinating, not wanting to show
How irresponsible I’d been ignoring my work
Now I was in trouble, would have to really perk
Got home, did my homework with full concentration
No distractions this time, full dedication
Studied hard for a good few focused hours
Much better than wasting time in dreamy cowers
Next day in math class I was fully prepared
No longer a bundle of anxiety and fear
When the review questions came, I knew the answers well
Raising my hand often, proud as could tell
Ms. Johnson smiled, seeing my improvement was clear
Glad I had turned it around without further ado
After class she pulled me aside with a grin
“Great job today, I’m really proud of your win
You learned an important lesson about due dates
Hope this experience stays with you always”
I nodded in agreement, feeling pretty good
Being responsibly had lifted my grateful mood
Procrastination is never the path to choose
Do your work on time, that’s what the wise refuse
Since that day in math I’ve stayed diligent and sound
Never again putting things off till they’ve compounded
Setting aside distraction-free time each night
To study and learn without a worried plight
Now when tests and assignments are handed to me
I know I’m well prepared thanks to my work ethic
Homework gets finished before fun time can start
Helps me achieve success with an easy smart
So all you students out there, please take it from me
Always do your homework, it’s really a must-see
Don’t end up regretting your delay like I did
Keep on top of schoolwork, stay focused, don’t slip
Positive habits formed will take you very far
Putting things off till later often leads to scar
So get studying tonight without any gripe
You’ll thank yourself tomorrow when issues don’t pipe
