Introducion
The Writing section of the PTE Academic exam requires test takers to compose an essay on a given topic within a limited time frame. As such, it is important for those preparing for the test to familiarize themselves with PTE Writing tasks and understand how to structure an effective essay response. In this sample essay, I will analyze the sample topic “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” by Nelson Mandela and discuss both the benefits and limitations of education in creating positive social change.
Body Paragraph 1: Education Promotes Positive Social Change
There are several compelling reasons to believe that education can powerfully influence society in a progressive manner. Firstly, education empowers individuals by providing them with knowledge and skills. When people gain literacy, numerical ability, and learn about various subjects, they become equipped to achieve more in their personal and professional lives. This leads to greater opportunities for social and economic mobility. Individual advancement then stimulates community improvement as educated members of society are more likely to start businesses, enter skilled professions, and participate meaningfully in civic processes.

Without proper implementation and funding, the goals of education may never be realized.

Deep-rooted inequalities, authoritarian power structures, religious fundamentalism or economic deprivation that education does not directly address may curb independent, critical thinking. Prejudices nurtured over generations may be difficult to undo through education alone without simultaneous efforts to remove discriminatory laws and habits. Lastly, it must be recognized that education does not necessarily result in unanimous consensus, especially on complex issues. Differences of opinion, debate and alternative viewpoints are also important for societal advancement and may persist in an educated populace.
