Abstract
This study examined customer satisfaction with an online clothing retailer. An online survey was developed to assess satisfaction across several dimensions, including ease of shopping, product selection, customer service, delivery speed, and price. The survey was distributed through social media and resulted in 198 responses. Results found that customers were most satisfied with product selection and price but least satisfied with delivery speed. Satisfaction varied based on shipping location, with international customers reporting lower satisfaction than domestic customers. Recommendations for improving satisfaction, especially delivery speed and the international shipping experience, are discussed.

Customer Satisfaction With an Online Clothing Retailer: A Survey Research Study
Online clothing retailers have experienced exponential growth in recent years. With more shopping done online, it is important for businesses to understand customer satisfaction levels to meet expectations and ensure loyal customers. This study examined customer satisfaction with an online clothing retailer called ClothesCo using a survey research design. The goal was to assess satisfaction across key dimensions and determine areas for improvement.

Literature Review
Research on online customer satisfaction has found several key drivers. Ease of navigation and shopping on a website impacts satisfaction (Chen & Cheng, 2012; Sari et al., 2018). Product selection and quality also influence satisfaction levels (Anderson & Srinivasan, 2003; Jiang & Rosenbloom, 2005). Delivery speed and reliability is another important factor, especially for clothing which customers want quickly (Anderson & Srinivasan, 2003; Park & Kim, 2003). Price fairness in relation to competitors also affects satisfaction (Chang & Dibb, 2012; Chen & Cheng, 2012). Finally, quality of customer service impacts post-purchase satisfaction (Li et al., 2009; Park & Kim, 2003).

Prior studies commonly assess satisfaction on dimensions like website usability, product offerings, delivery speed, and post-sale support (Douthit et al., 2017; Sari et al., 2018). Fewer examine differences based on shipping location (domestic vs. international). This study aimed to fill that gap and provide actionable insights for improvement based on customer feedback. It was hypothesized that satisfaction would be highest for product selection and price but lowest for delivery speed. It was also hypothesized that international customers would report lower satisfaction than domestic customers due to global shipping challenges.

Method
Participants and Procedure
The target population was existing customers of ClothesCo, an online clothing retailer. To recruit participants, a description of the study and a link to the 15-minute anonymous online survey was posted on ClothesCo’s social media pages. Customers who had made a purchase in the past 6 months were eligible to participate. A total of 198 customers completed the survey over a 2-week period.

Design and Measures
The survey used a cross-sectional design to capture customer satisfaction at one point in time. It contained three sections. The first collected demographic information like gender, age, location (domestic vs. international), and purchase frequency. The second measured overall satisfaction on a 7-point Likert scale. The third assessed satisfaction on key dimensions using 5 items each, also on 7-point Likert scales. Dimensions were ease of shopping, product selection, customer service, delivery speed, and price. Higher numbers indicated greater satisfaction. Two open-ended questions invited additional comments.

Results
Participant Characteristics
Most participants were female (65%) between ages 25-44 (62%). Just over two-thirds (68%) were domestic customers from the United States while 32% were international. Over half (55%) made 1-2 purchases in the past 6 months while the remainder made 3 or more purchases.

Overall Satisfaction
Overall satisfaction averaged 5.54 out of 7, indicating customers were generally satisfied. No significant differences emerged based on gender, age, or purchase frequency.

Satisfaction by Dimension
As hypothesized, satisfaction was highest for product selection (M=6.12) and price (M=5.93), reflecting the core offerings of an online clothing retailer. Satisfaction with delivery speed (M=4.76) was significantly lower than all other dimensions (p < .001). Customer service satisfaction (M=5.48) was lower than product selection and price but higher than delivery speed. Ease of shopping satisfaction (M=5.82) fell in between. This partially supported the hypothesis about delivery speed being the lowest dimension. Differences Between Groups An independent samples t-test revealed international customers (M=4.96) were significantly less satisfied overall than domestic customers (M=5.72), t(196) = 3.21, p = .002, confirming the hypothesis. Breaking down satisfaction by dimension, international customers reported significantly lower satisfaction than domestic customers for delivery speed (M=4.21 vs M=4.92), t(196) = 2.12, p = .035, customer service (M=5.06 vs M=5.67), t(196) = 2.33, p = .021, and ease of shopping (M=5.39 vs 5.92), t(196) = 2.25, p = .025. Qualitative Feedback Common themes emerged in the open-ended comments. Customers praised product quality and selection, quick domestic deliveries, and affordable prices. International shipping speed drew frequent complaints, especially long transit times and extra fees. One customer commented, “I love the styles but international shipping needs work - it takes too long and costs a lot.” Others suggested improving tracking updates for international orders. Discussion This study provided valuable insights into customer satisfaction levels with an online clothing retailer. As expected, customers were most satisfied with product offerings like selection and price. Delivery speed was a clear weakness, especially for international markets. International customers reported lower overall satisfaction and specifically for delivery speed, customer service, and ease of shopping. Their written feedback confirms shipping is a primary dissatisfier that negatively impacts the customer experience abroad. These results have important implications for improving satisfaction. Focusing efforts on faster, more reliable and transparent international delivery would likely boost satisfaction the most. Strategies could include negotiating better shipping rates with carriers, expanding fulfillment centers globally, or collaborating with local partners for faster customs clearance. Improving tracking and communication during transit would also address dissatisfaction. Domestically, maintaining quick delivery through continued process optimization is key to retaining high satisfaction levels.

Given shipping interruptions during the pandemic, addressing these issues will be crucial for regaining trust as disruptions persist globally. In terms of customer service, implementing live chat, additional language support, and dedicated international service reps could enhance the experience abroad. Continually assessing satisfaction across markets provides data to prioritize improvements where they matter most. Overall, this study provided customer feedback needed to enhance the online shopping experience, especially critical in challenging economic times. Limitations and Future Research This study had some limitations. The sample was a convenience sample of existing ClothesCo customers rather than a random sample, limiting generalizability. Future research could incorporate random sampling strategies to represent the target population better. Only self-reported satisfaction was assessed; actual behavioral measures like repurchase intentions were not captured. Including such outcome variables could strengthen conclusions. Finally, qualitative feedback was limited; in-depth interviews exploring satisfaction barriers in more detail could offer deeper insights. Future research could replicate this study design with other international brands. Comparing results across retailers could reveal best practices. Longitudinal studies capturing satisfaction pre- and post-improvement initiatives could evaluate impact. Studies also incorporating customer effort and expectations into models could offer a more nuanced view of satisfaction. Overall, continuous customer research plays an important role in refining the online shopping experience, both domestically and globally, especially during uncertain times. Retailers would benefit from routinely surveying and engaging customers to improve satisfaction over the long term.
