In this essay, I will discuss sample essay responses for two common MUET essay questions in order to provide students with ideas on how to structure and develop their essays for the test.
Sample Essay 1 for the Question: “Children spend too much time using gadgets such as smartphones, tablets and computers. Do you agree or disagree? Support your response with relevant reasons and examples.”

Technology has become increasingly embedded in our daily lives. Children today grow up surrounded by gadgets like smartphones, tablets and computers. While these devices offer educational benefits, overuse can also have negative impacts on development. Overall, I disagree that children spend too much time with technology if usage is balanced and monitored properly.
Body Paragraph 1
One potential downside of excessive gadget use is that it can reduce physical activity in children. With smartphones and tablets always at hand, kids may be less likely to engage in outdoor play or sports. This lack of exercise can lead to weight gain and increased health risks like obesity and heart disease down the road. If parents set limits on screen time and encourage other activities, moderate technology use need not displace physical play entirely.

Some research also indicates that extensive mobile device and internet exposure at a young age may negatively impact social skills as children learn to interact more through screens than in real life. Playing online games or social media constantly could limit face-to-face communication children need for proper social-emotional development. Nevertheless, technology provides opportunities to connect over distance as well. Balanced appropriately, it does not have to undermine social relationships or interactions.

Excessive recreational gadget use, especially before bedtime, may disrupt sleep patterns in children due to the stimulating lights and notifications. Poor sleep habits formed in youth can persist into adulthood and increase long-term health issues. That said, responsible limits on usage hours and a screen curfew a few hours before bed can avoid disrupting circadian rhythms and the quality of sleep children require for growth and learning.
Conclusion Paragraph
In moderation with parental control and guidance, the educational benefits of technology for children in the form of accessible information, multi-media learning tools, and communication across distances outweigh potential disadvantages. While overindulgence in screen time raises problems, balanced usage integrated thoughtfully into a well-rounded routine focusing on other developmentally-important activities need not be harmful. Overall, I disagree that children spend too much time with gadgets if such usage is regulated appropriately according to age and individual needs and preferences.
Sample Essay 2 for the Question: “Technological progress brings more harm than good. To what extent do you agree or disagree?”

Considerable effort is required to maximize benefits and minimize potential downsides.

No development path is without trade-offs, but with balanced management, technological progress need not cause more harm than good in the long run. Its results can overwhelmingly improve the world if shaped and shared judiciously.
