Be sure to cite the source of any direct quotes using a simple citation format. The last sentence of each paragraph should connect back to how this subtopic supports your overall thesis. Maintain a clear flow between paragraphs by using transition words like furthermore, similarly, And in addition.

Write the conclusion. The conclusion should not introduce any new information but rather summarize the key points made in your body paragraphs and restate how these points substantiate your thesis. Leave the reader with a strong final impression of what you discussed and proved about your topic. Check that you answered the research question initially presented in your introduction. Your last sentence can call attention to any implications or remaining questions about the topic.

Polish and edit your writing. Now go back and carefully proofread your entire paper for mistakes in spelling, grammar, punctuation and formatting. Ask a parent or teacher to also review it for clarity and sense. Refine any parts that could be stronger with more examples, sources, or details from your research. Make sure each paragraph is 3-5 sentences and all facts are cited correctly. Once you’ve edited your paper, add a reference page listing each source cited using an age-appropriate format.

Practice presenting your findings. Finally, be prepared to present your research paper to the class. Practice out loud highlighting your thesis statement, main points from each body paragraph, and overall conclusions reached.
