It provides instructions or directions for carrying out a procedure or methodology. A process analysis should use clear, concise language and break the task down into easy to follow sequential steps.
Definition Essay: As the name suggests, definition essays define concepts by clearly outlining their essential qualities and salient attributes. They provide classifications to help establish the characteristics that differentiate a term from others within a shared category or domain. Definition essays focus on precise terminology to set boundaries around a key phrase or idea. Once the concept has been well-defined, the writer can analytically expand on its significance and context.
Evaluation Essay: This type involves making a value judgment about the merits and limitations of a debated topic based on predetermined criteria. It juxtaposes and analyzes two or more objects, concepts, theories, opinions, or other phenomena to determine their commonalities and differences. Strong compare-contrast papers draw logical conclusions based on the elements of comparison.
