We believe that with the right tools and opportunities, anyone willing to work hard should be able to meet their basic needs and build a better life for themselves and their loved ones.
Due to systemic inequalities and lack of access to good jobs that provide living wages and benefits, far too many in our community struggle in poverty through no real fault of their own. Living paycheck to paycheck with little ability to save or build assets leaves families vulnerable to even small financial setbacks that can spiral into full-blown crises. Without savings to fall back on, unexpected bills or periods of unemployment often force choices between basic necessities like food, shelter, healthcare and education. This ongoing stress negatively impacts physical and mental health as well as children’s development. It also makes it incredibly difficult to move up the economic ladder even with steady employment.
Our Vision is for every individual, regardless of background or circumstance, to have the power and ability to support themselves and their families through meaningful work that pays fair wages. We envision a community where no one lives in constant fear that one small mishap could destroy their fragile economic situation. We work towards a society with social and economic justice where systemic barriers to opportunity have been removed and people from all neighborhoods and demographics have equal chances to pursue their dreams and talents.
In order to achieve our mission and vision, we operate comprehensive programming focused on providing both short-term stabilization and long-term solutions. Our services are intended to work together holistically to support clients as they progress along their own journeys towards self-sufficiency.
We begin by addressing immediate crises through our Emergency Assistance program. By preventing homelessness through back rent/mortgage assistance or helping families put food on the table, we aim to provide brief but critical relief so clients can focus energy on moving forward rather than just getting by each day.
Our Financial Education and Coaching services teach budgeting, credit, banking, savings, and other financial life skills to build financial capability and empower clients to take control of their money. Paired with one-on-one coaching, this program instills tools and habits for long-term financial well-being.
Our Job Training and Placement initiatives partner with local employers and training centers to equip clients with in-demand skills and credentials through vocational education programs. By investing in quality education and training aligned to real job opportunities in growing industries, we support clients in gaining sustainable employment with wages to support their families.
Another key component is our Entrepreneurship Incubator which launches new small businesses by assisting aspiring entrepreneurs through business plan development, mentorship, microloans and peer support community. By fostering entrepreneurship in low-income communities and supporting the success of local businesses owned by community members, we work to stimulate broader economic development as well as empower individuals to achieve self-sufficiency through business ownership.
Finally, our Asset Building strategies help clients achieve long-term financial stability through matched savings programs, IDAs and other tools to accumulate assets like homeownership, further education or retirement funds. By developing savings habits and matching client contributions for priorities like home down payments or college tuition, we assist in breaking intergenerational poverty through meaningful asset accumulation.
Operating all these programs in an integrated, client-centered approach maximizes our impact. Clients can easily access the layered services they need most to meet their circumstances – whether it’s a short-term stabilizing hand or long-term solutions focused on careering ahead. Outcomes are closely tracked, and we regularly evaluate effectiveness and make adjustments to continuously improve support for our community’s success.
