For example, “(Toy name) is my favorite toy because it makes me happy when I play with it. I never get bored playing with my ball. I have had (toy name) for a long time and it is always there when I need a friend to play with.”
The conclusion paragraph restates the main topic and wraps up the key points covered. For example, “My favorite toy is (toy name) the yellow ball. I told you what it looks like, how I play with it by rolling, bouncing, and throwing it, and why it is my favorite – because it is always there to play with and makes me happy. Thank you for learning about my favorite toy!”
In addition to structure, first grade example essays should model simple and clear language. Sentences should be kept short – ideally 8-10 words at most for emergent readers. Vocabulary used should be words first graders can easily understand. Descriptive words are important to “show, not tell.” Transitional words like “first,” “next,” and “finally” can help guide the reader through the paragraphs.
