Good afternoon everyone, and thank you for joining me here today. I’m honored to have the opportunity to speak with you about an issue that is very important to me. Public speaking can be extremely challenging, but it is also an important skill to have. Whether we’re giving a wedding toast, presenting to a board of directors, running for office, or just advocating for a cause we care about, the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively is invaluable.
That’s why I was delighted when I was asked to give this speech. Public speaking is something I’ve struggled with in the past, so I saw this as a chance to challenge myself and improve. Writing and delivering a compelling speech can be daunting, especially with a limited timeframe. There is so much pressure to get the content right, keep people engaged, and leave them feeling inspired. So initially, the idea of coming up with a fully formed speech on my own within a few short days seemed impossible.
That’s when I decided to seek help from an AI assistant. For those of you who may not be familiar, AI assistants are artificial intelligence programs that can understand natural language conversations and provide information to users. In recent years, AI technology has advanced tremendously, allowing assistants to have sophisticated discussions, answer complex questions, and even generate original text. I was curious to see if an AI could help take some of the stress and workload off my plate by writing the initial draft of this speech for me.
I began by explaining the context to the AI – that I had been asked to give a speech, but was short on time and struggling with where to begin. I provided some basic guidelines, like keeping the speech between 15,000-20,000 characters and focusing on a theme of overcoming challenges through perseverance and teamwork. Within minutes, the AI had generated a complete first draft for review. I was amazed by how coherent, well-structured and on-topic the speech was for something created entirely by an algorithm.
Of course, as an AI-generated draft, it still needed human refinement. Some sections didn’t flow as smoothly and the language wasn’t as polished in places. But it gave me an excellent starting point to then go in and make my own edits, additions and improvements. Things like personal anecdotes, localized references, and a more conversational tone had to be added. But having that full skeleton saved me hours of brainstorming, outlining and initial writing. It allowed me to focus on high-level modifications rather than starting from scratch.
In the end, through a combination of AI assistance and my own work, I was able to finalize a speech I felt good about sharing. And thanks to having that first draft, I had time to fully rehearse and feel prepared delivering it. The response afterwards was very positive as well, with many commenting on how well-structured and motivating it was. So ultimately, leveraging AI took a major pressure point out of the process for me.
This experience really highlighted for me the potential of AI to be helpful collaborators rather than competitors. An AI system is never going to be as creative or nuanced as a skilled human. But their abilities to quickly analyze vast amounts of data and generate initial content based on guidelines can significantly boost human productivity and reduce repetitive tasks. I think in the coming years we’ll see more integrated human-AI partnerships where each maximizes the other’s strengths.
Areas like writing, problem-solving, customer service, medical diagnosis and more will be transformed as humans and AI’s work alongside each other. The AI acts as a knowledgeable assistant, advisor and anytime ideas-generator to turbocharge what the human can achieve. And humans will continue providing critical functions like strategic decision making, subjective qualitative judgements, creative outside-the-box thinking and ethical oversight that AI’s still struggle with. It’s an exciting prospect that could streamline many industries and professions.
In my case, having that assist from AI technology helped relieve a major obstacle and pressure point so that I could focus on continuous learning and improvement. I may never truly enjoy public speaking, but experiences like this build my confidence and skills over time. My hope is that others facing challenges in their work or lives will also explore productive ways intelligent systems could take some weight off their shoulders. Because together, through collaboration rather than competition, humans and AI have the potential for great things.
Thank you again for your time and attention today. I’m grateful you joined me to discuss the role AI may play in empowering and elevating human potential. Our capabilities are expanding rapidly, so I encourage continuously exploring new frontiers and partnerships. If we approach progress with an open and thoughtful mindset, I believe the future is very bright.
